Hello Lori, we do recommend saliva testing as a first step to check hormone levels followed by a visit to a BHRT practitioner who will determine and prescribe your individually compounded bioidentical hormone dosage. Hormones are fat soluble. Blood is water based. Cell membranes are fat soluble. When hormones migrate from the blood (water based) to the cells (fat soluble) it is detectable in your saliva. We use Aeron Labs based out of California and can ship their saliva testing kits directly to you. Coincidentally, our latest blog covers hormone testing so please take a look!

I am a 48 y o, Type I diabetic, diagnosed at abut 3 y o a. I am surprised, based on reserach, that I have not gone through menopause sooner. My question concerns the best method for checking my hormone levels. I believe that it is by saliva testing. What is your preferred method and why?

Sherryl,

We used to be that pharmacy in Ardsley. We are now located in Chappaqua, NY. It really depends on your individual insurance, there coverages are in constant flux. We have had excellent results in helping people get reimbursed. Please contact us directly if you have any other questions.

Since everyone is different results will most certainly vary. We are specifically talking about hormone restoration verses hormone replacement. Typically you can expect to see and feel benefit within four to six weeks. Furthermore you can expect those benefits to continue favorably into the future.
